What We Believe

The Elders and Deacons of Harvest Bible Fellowship teach and substantially subscribe to the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith as the fullest expression of what we believe. It expresses a Calvinistic soteriology as well as a covenantal systematic theology.

Covenant members of our Church either hold to the same standard as the Elders, or substantially subscribe to the 1858 Abstract of Principles. Which is generally a subset of the 1689, and was the confession of faith adopted by the Board of Trustees at the establishment of Southern Seminary.

Harvest Bible Fellowship affirms that personal health choices, including vaccination, are within the jurisdiction of individuals and families, not the government. Any attempt by civil or ecclesiastical authorities to mandate vaccinations is considered tyrannical and sinful. The church will not be forced to violate its conscience regarding unethically sourced vaccinations, especially those sourced from aborted fetal tissue.

The International Council on Biblical Inerrancy (ICBI) was founded in 1977 to clarify and rigorously defend the doctrine of biblical inerrancy. The Council sponsored three major “summits,” each producing an important statement.

The Chicago Statement on Biblical Hermeneutics

The Chicago Statement on Biblical Hermeneutics, drafted at ICBI Summit II (1982,) is a continuation and elaboration of the meaning of the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy (1978.) It is a fuller statement on the relation of inerrancy to hermeneutics, especially of the meaning of the “grammatico-historical exegesis” mentioned in Article XIII of the earlier statement.

The Chicago Statement on Biblical Application

Summit III (1986), drafted the Chicago Statement on Biblical Application. With this statement the proposed scholarly work of ICBI has been completed, for the doctrine of inerrancy has thus been defined, interpreted, and applied by many of the leading evangelical scholars of our day.
